His practice emphasizes the development of effective strategies for trademark and copyright protection, enforcement, licensing, and dispute resolution (including practice before the USPTO and TTAB). Over his career, Andy has helped businesses in a wide variety of industries, including technology, food and beverage, AFA (apparel-footwear-accessories), manufacturing, and services. A veteran of the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Division, Andy especially enjoys working with businesses operated by those affiliated with the military community. Andy is admitted to practice in California state and federal courts. He is also admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and the United States Supreme Court. In this episode, Bart and Andy focus on the legalities and nuances of copyrights. They also discuss how AI is impacting copyrights and what may lay ahead as AI becomes more broadly used.

Key topics discussed in this episode include:

-What the classic four pillars of intellectual property (IP) are.

-What is a copyright and what does it typically cover?

-How long do copyrights last for?

-What are common ways copyrights are infringed on?

-Copyright challenges with the onset of artificial intelligence (AI) and authorship issues.

-Predictions for copyrights over the next decade due to the emergence of AI.

When asked what his ultimate lesson learned has been in his career, Andy shared, “Ask for help and find a mentor.”
